Memorial Day

It's not about the hot dogs.

Ah, the art of the rant...

Just wondering...

I was listening to NPR the other day (Morning Edition or ATC ... I can't recall which,) and they read a comment from one of their listeners which said, in effect, that WV voters were ignorant and racist because Hills won the primaries there.

Hills is expected to win KY. I wonder how some NPR listeners will interpret that win...

So, that makes primary voters in predominantly black areas in other states who vote overwhelmingly for Obama what, exactly? Are they racist for picking someone whose skin tone more closely matches their own, or are they sexist for not choosing Hills?

It's fun to watch "progressives" turn on each other with the ol' racism/sexism extortion game.

Quote of the day

"My eyebrows ain't plucked
There's a gun in my truck
Oh, thank God, I'm still a guy"

-Brad Paisley, "I'm Still A Guy"

OK, so he's not exactly one of the Founding Fathers. That's still a great line...

Gretsch

At tonight's American Cancer Society Relay for Life, I won a Gretsch Electromatic model G5245T with a bid of only $140. Now I just need an amp...

Spring semester finals are over. This week has been full-bore. I worked 3rd shift Monday and had a final exam on Tuesday. Thursday I had training at work at 7am, my last final exam at 1pm and orientation for the RN program at 4:30. I woke up Friday AM at 8, bought textbooks, came home and wrote a speech for the ACS Relay. The Relay for Life started at 6pm and I just got home (with the above booty) a little while ago. Normaly, the Relay is a 24 hour event. Not in my little town -- we wrap it up around 11pm. We still raise money for the ACS, so it's worth it.

Tonight's music: "Sunless Saturday" by Fishbone. Ah, the early '90s...

Finals!

Finals are next week. I only have final exams in Medical Microbiology, but I have separate exams for lab and lecture.

I worked another E.R. shift last night. I'm still really enjoying E.R. It can be frustrating, but somehow the frustrations and irritations of dealing with patients in the E.R. just aren't the same as what I find on the floor.

I've been told that at least one nurse at work is pissed because I'm getting E.R. time fresh out of LPN. I hate that. I've never had a problem with co-workers, and I don't plan to start now. I'm not apologetic, though. I didn't change careers to be a med-surg LPN. I want to be an RN, and (right now) I'm not interested in working the floor. I want to work E.R. or maybe I.C.U. (though I haven't had much time there thus far.) I have no doubt that the floor is where I'll get the bulk of my experience, and that's OK - I'm willing to pay my dues - but I'm not going to let opportunities pass me by because someone else feels entitled. When I'm offered E.R. time, why on earth would I turn it down?

Anyway, my life will pretty much be study-study-study between now and Thursday.

No break after finals for the Alpineman. RN coursework starts the very next week.
